Marvel has obviously struck gold with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), especially with its flagship Avengers movies. When a formula works it is only a matter of time before it is emulated by others. Well, Russia has jumped on the Avengers bandwagon and it come in the form of “Guardians.”
Before you judge this movie by its cover, watch the trailer. I admit, I was more than a little skeptical. In fact, at 0:21 of the trailer, I couldn’t contain my eye roll. I was then immediately proven wrong.
How dare I believe that the only Marvel can bequeath such masterpieces upon the populace. This movie looks awesome. It makes me want to pick up a copy of Rosetta Stone and fly to Mother Russia on opening day. I mean, come on, there is a man-bear. A freaking man-bear!
Guardians is slated to release in Winter of 2017. Helmed by director Sarik Andreasyan.
Here is the official movie synopsis:
During the Cold War, an organization called “Patriot” created a super-hero squad, which includes members of multiple soviet republics. For years, the heroes had to hide their identities, but in hard times they must show themselves again.
List of Guardians:
Can manipulate rocks with his mind. At one point in the trailer it looks like he covered himself in rock-suit of armor.
A teleporting master swordsman.
Can render herself invisible.
For the western audience
I understand that this might all be foreign to the westernized audience, so let me put it in a way that it could be understood.
It’s an alternate reality where the Avengers changed their team name to Guardians, the invisible woman got tatted up and joined the team (2:13), the Winter Soldier picked up swordplay as a hobby (1:27), Dr. Strange and The Thing had a baby (1:23), the Hulk is a bear with a gun (2:02), and Bane shows up as a villain (0:57).
